The popular gas station and convenience store chain Wawa plans a location near downtown Sarasota at Fruitville Road and Lime Avenue.
The plans will be considered during a session with city staff at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Sarasota City Hall.
The gas station would be on 1.82 acres along Fruitville Road just west of Lime.
Preliminary plans for the site show the convenience store situated against Second Street and a right-in, right-out access driveway to the store and gas pumps on Fruitville Road. It would replace the auto shop on the corner of Fruitville and Lime, the small Tienda Latina La Canasta Market off Second Street and the warehouses at the corner of Fruitville and Third Street.
Wawa opened two area locations last month at the corner of U.S. 301 and Myrtle Street in Sarasota and at the intersection of State Road 70 and Lockwood Ridge Road in Manatee County.
Venice is expected to see its first Wawa this fall at U.S. 41 and Englewood Road.
Since landing in southwest Florida in late 2014, the chain has continued its rapid spread across the state. Wawa plans to open at least 19 more locations over the next year and the Fruitville Road property would make it 20.
