Tara Club History ♦ In 1988, the Tara Development Project was begun by Tara-Manatee, Inc., a division of Power Corporation, Naples Florida. The 1,100 acre site is situated west of Interstate 75 and south of State Road 70 in Bradenton, Florida (Manatee County). The development project consisted of a golf course, residential homes, retail and commercial properties. Tara Golf & Country Club was the first stage of development, including single-family homes, veranda-style condos, multi-story terrace condos with elevator access, and paired villas.  Country Club membership was mandatory and was included with each lot or parcel.

The 6,800 yard par 72 championship golf course and clubhouse attracted buyers from all over the United States, as well as from Canada, England, Germany, and other international areas.  The planned, mixed use of the parcel made suburban conveniences available to the residents.  In addition to supermarkets, restaurants, banks and neighborhood shops, large scale shopping centers are located as close as 5 miles away.  Tara’s proximity to the cities of Sarasota, Tampa, and St. Petersburg offers its members the opportunity to enjoy theater arts and entertainment on a national and international scale.  Access to gulf beaches and major rivers is only minutes away.

In July 1997, the golf course and clubhouse operations were turned over to the membership by the developer, and the first Tara Board of Directors was elected.  Tara Golf & Country Club became a private, member-owned club.  Golf associations for both men and women had already been founded and many members volunteered their time to serve on the many committees that support the club activities.  Tara has a seven (7) member Board of Directors and seven (7) volunteer Committees, all of whom work together with the General Manager to provide the best possible service to the membership.  Tara Golf & Country Club is among the well-known golf course communities in the area.

Tara is a private, mandatory membership Bradenton golf course community.  The facilities include a recently renovated championship 18 hole private golf course, and an Antebellum themed clubhouse from “Gone With the Wind”.  We feature casual and formal dining along with a renovated fitness center, pool and tennis.

Tara is located conveniently to beaches, shopping, sports venues, dining, theaters and less than one hour to Tampa and 30 minutes to the Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport.  Tara yearly member fees are competitively priced. Tara Golf & Country Club is an equity club owned by the members; many of whom serve on seven standing committees and the Board of Trustees.
