Landscape architect David Young of Sarasota was chosen by viewers of HGTV as the overall winner of its Ultimate Outdoor awards.
Principal of DWY Landscape Architects, Young’s residential project on a Sarasota County barrier island was chosen as the winner of the category “Love at First Sight,” as well as the best overall project of those submitted.
As the overall winner, DWY will receive recognition onHGTV.com and the HGTV team will visit the firm to film editorial and promotional videos. The results can be viewed at: http://www.hgtv.com/design/packages/hgtv-ultimate-outdoor-awards.
“In a contest full of exceptional design and inspirational outdoor spaces,” the HGTV team stated, Young’s work “stood out among the rest!”
Across the country, only 35 finalists were nominated among six categories. Young was one of only four from Florida and the only professional to have two designs showcased for voting: one in the category of “Water, Water Everywhere” and a second in “Love at First Sight.”
“There were a lot of good projects to vote on,” said Young. “To be selected as the best of those is really an honor.
“The project itself is a very special one. We did our best to bring about a design that met the requirements of the site and doing justice to the architecture and the client’s program. At the end of the day, if you can do that in a meaningful way, it is very rewarding.”
Young said the project was a collaborative effort of the architect, the pool consultant and the landscape architect, as well as the client.
