If plans proposed by the Manatee Lost Lagoon Development company move ahead, folks could be slippin’ and slidin’ their way through Tom Bennett Park.
A developer says they want to build a world class water park in Tom Bennett Park featuring lots of waterslides, a wave pool, a lazy river and a boutique hotel. If all goes smoothly with Manatee County, the developer says they could break ground on this park within a matter of months. A Manatee County Evaluation Committee will be meeting on Monday to discuss this water park proposal.
Many residents welcome the park and say there is a big need. “To give more opportunities for families moving in the area, something like that would probably be a good thing,” said Mike Miller, a Bradenton resident. “They wouldn’t have to travel to Tampa.” Becky is a Bradenton resident who is concerned about all the additional cars it would bring to the roadways. She is not against the development of a water park, just the proposed location. “I think it’s going to make the congestion even worse, it’s terrible here, there’s way too much traffic,” said Becky. Joshua Rolli is a North Port resident who had been visiting his girlfriend in Bradenton. She lives near Bennett Park. “It would give kids around here a lot more stuff to do and I would love to go,” said Rolli excitedly.
